DEFEND NOT END (notend.org) is a charitable initiative defending western civilisation by urging people to defend Christianity and defend free speech.

Why is it important for western nations to defend Christianity and freedom of speech (free speech)?

Western civilisation found within western nations is rooted in Christianity and Christian values. Nobody expects everyone in the west to follow Christianity (that is why Christianity generally welcomes secularism) but that doesn't mean that it is wise to cast aside the Christian foundations of western nations. Christianity has been and continues to be a force for good as it confronts the realities that absolutely nobody is perfect and that everyone is capable of doing better (capable of becoming less imperfect by following the example of perfection named Jesus Christ). Admittedly most western nations once had blasphemy laws (restricting freedom of speech), but as populations have become less Christian observant, in most cases these laws have been removed (with the need to uphold freedom of speech generally accepted by Christianity). Although Christianity with its focus on love and forgiveness is challenging, it is non threatening to non Christians (as Chrisitianity accepts secularism and freedom of speech). However, it is very critical that the Christian foundations of western nations are never replaced by alternative foundations that lack the same acceptance of secularism and freedom of speech (free speech) as the result would look very different to what most of us take for granted (just look at nations like Russia and Iran to see the consequences of replacing Christianity with alternative foundations).

• The DEFEND NOT END initiative strives to uphold western civilisation by defending both Christianity and free speech so should resonate with both Christians and free speech supporters.
